Packaging machines can be broadly divided into two categories:
1. Machines for processing packaging materials and packaging containers;
2. Machines used to complete the packaging process. The discussion here is limited to the latter; that is, the machine that completes the packaging process is called a packaging machine. The definition of “packaging machine” in the national standard is: “A machine that completes all or part of the packaging process.” The packaging process includes the main packaging operations such as filling, wrapping, and sealing, as well as related upstream and downstream processes such as cleaning, stacking, and disassembly. In addition, it also includes auxiliary equipment such as stamping and metering.”
Based on this, packaging machines can be divided into 8 categories: 1. Wrapping machine, 2. Filling machine, 3. Sealing machine, 4. Labeling machine, 5. Multifunctional packaging machine, 6. Cleaning, drying, and sterilization machine, 7. Container machine, 8. Mechanical auxiliary equipment for packaging.
Packaging Machine
A machine that packages products using flexible packaging materials is called a packaging machine. Depending on the packaging method, it can be classified as follows: 1. Folding packaging machine, 2. Rotating packaging machine, 2. Seam packaging machine, 3. Cover packaging machine, 4. Wrapping machine, 5. Stretch wrapping machine, 6. Body packaging machine, 7. Filling Machine
The machine that fills the packaging container with a specific quantity of packaging material is called a filler. Depending on the quantitative filling method, the following types of machines can be distinguished: 1. volumetric filler, 2. weighing filler, 3. counting filler, 4. filling machine, 5. gravity filler, 6. push-feed filler, 7. pick-and-place filler, etc.

Sealing Machine
The machine that seals the opening of a packaging container is called a sealing machine. Depending on the sealing method, it can be divided into the following categories: 1. Hot-press sealing machine, 2. Welding sealing machine, 3. Embossing sealer, 4. Folding sealer, 5. Insert sealer, 6. Roll sealer, 7. Crimp sealer, 8. Press sealer, 9. Screw-type sealing machine, 10. Labeling Machine
The machine that attaches or inserts labels onto a product is called a labeling machine. Depending on the different methods of attaching labels, it can be classified as follows: 1. Multifunctional Packaging Machine
A machine capable of performing more than two packaging processes is referred to as a multifunctional packaging machine. It is generally named after the packaging process it can perform. The most important ones are: 1. Filling and sealing machine, 2. Form, fill, and seal machine (for forming packaging materials), 3. Form, fill, and seal machine (for forming pre-made packaging containers), 4. Vacuum packaging machine (filling, vacuum sealing, sealing), 5. Inflatable packaging machine (filling, inflating, sealing), 6. Wrapping and labeling machine, etc.

Cleaning, Sterilization, and Drying Machine
Machines that clean, sterilize, and dry packaging containers before packaging or packaged products after packaging are referred to as cleaning machines, sterilization machines, and drying machines. This category of machines includes, for example, bottle washers, can washers, spray sterilizers, steam sterilizers, UV sterilization machines, hot-air dryers, infrared dryers, etc., which are frequently used in light industry. If a machine has multiple functions, it can be named by combining those functions, such as a cleaning-drying machine, a sterilization-drying machine, or a cleaning-sterilization-drying machine.
Containerizer
A machine that bundles multiple individual packages together is called a containerizer. It may be named according to its containerization method, e.g.: 1. Strapping machine, 2. Binding machine, 3. Baler, 4. Packaging machine, etc.
Packaging Auxiliary Machinery and Equipment
All machines and equipment not included in the seven categories listed above but required for the packaging process are referred to as auxiliary packaging machines and equipment. Examples include conveyors, stacking tables, dosing machines, carton openers, adhesive applicators, printers, inspection machines, etc.
In addition to the classification of packaging machines, which is primarily based on the machine's packaging function, as mentioned above, they can sometimes be further classified according to their level of automation or area of application.
For example, a machine that manually feeds packaging materials or manually removes packaged products, but can perform other packaging operations automatically, may be referred to as a semi-automatic packaging machine; a machine that automatically performs the feeding, packaging, and discharge of the finished product is referred to as an automatic packaging machine.
A packaging machine that can package only products of a specific shape, specification, and size is called a specialized packaging machine. A packaging machine that can package products with two or more different shapes, specifications, and sizes is called a multipurpose packaging machine. A packaging machine that can package products of any shape, specification, and size within a certain range is referred to as a general-purpose packaging machine.
